Abstract

The increasing demand for food is not always aligned with the government’s capacity to ensure adequate food availability. Various factors contribute to food shortages, including environmental degradation caused by natural resource exploitation, land-use conversion, and climate change. Ecosystem imbalance, soil degradation, and water pollution are largely the result of the intensive and unwise use of chemical inputs such as fertilizers and pesticides. If these conditions persist, they may lead to a serious food crisis. Therefore, effective control measures are required to prevent further environmental damage. Environmentally friendly agriculture represents a viable alternative to promote sustainable food production. This Community Service Program (Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat/PKM) was conducted with the Cipulus Jaya Farmers Group in Ngamprah Village, West Bandung Regency, West Java Province. The program was implemented through extension activities that introduced the principles of environmentally friendly crop cultivation. Data collection and analysis were carried out using interviews and pre- and post-test assessments to evaluate farmers’ understanding of environmentally friendly agricultural principles. The results showed that most participating farmers were not familiar with the definition and fundamental principles of environmentally friendly agriculture. However, they demonstrated an understanding of organic farming as one form of environmentally friendly agricultural practice. The pre-test and post-test results indicated an increase in farmers’ knowledge regarding environmentally friendly agriculture. In addition, the farmers expressed interest in reducing the use of synthetic chemical inputs and showed willingness to adopt environmentally friendly agricultural practices in their farming activities.
